About
Penguins & Sharks is a husband-and-wife partnership. We work with conservation organizations to help raise awareness on pressing wildlife issues.
Melissa Mason is a dedicated wildlife professional, certified oiled wildlife responder working in the zoo and conservation field, specializing in birds and herpetology.
Dan Callister is an award-winning photojournalist from Wales. He is extremely passionate about natural history and the marine environment. His work regularly appears in books, documentaries, exhibitions and wildlife campaigns around the world.
They both met when Dan was on assignment at Melissa's workplace, shooting a documentary feature on a grumpy snow monkey named Flash!
What We Do
Our natural world is under ever increasing pressure from the effects of climate change, indiscriminate poaching and the grave loss of natural habitat. We work with accredited conservation organizations to help raise awareness on pressing wildlife issues via international media platforms, exhibitions and global wildlife initiatives.
We actively support and donate a portion of our limited edtion fine art print sales to The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB).
SANCCOB is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO 003-134) whose primary objective is to reverse the decline of seabird populations through the rescue, rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, abandoned and oiled seabirds, especially endangered species like the African penguin.
SANCCOB is an internationally recognized leader in oiled wildlife response, rehabilitation and chick-rearing; contributes to research which benefits seabirds; trains people to care for the birds and educates the public to develop behavioral patterns which benefit marine life and the environment.
Limited edition print sales fund our documentary and pro bono work. Sadly many organizations no longer have the budget to commission or support wildlife journalism. Putting together these kind of projects, securing permits, flights, accommodation, equipment and the time it takes to get these kind of images is astronomical. We don’t receive sponsorship and are now solely reliant on print sales to finance this kind of conservation work. So to all those who have purchased a fine art print, thank you.
